The Cote d'Azur

Known predominantly as the French Riviera, the cote d'azure stretches from Theoule-sur-Mer in the West to Menton on France's border with Italy. Along the way it takes in Cannes, Nice, St Tropez and even another country, the principality of Monaco. With the Alps sheltering the region from cold inland winds, the Cote d'Azur enjoys a perfect mediterranean climate, with over 300 days of sunshine a year.

Monaco, possibly the most well known part of the Riviera is a fantastic place to live and work. There is a large community of nannies in Monte Carlo and the surrounding areas and a great sense of camaraderie exists with nannies regularly socialising outside of work. There is a wealth of things to do outside your working hours; beaches, cafes and museums during the day and casinos, nightclubs and chic lounge bars at night. Due to the fantastic location it is easy to hop on a train and be in the Italian border town of Ventimiglia within minutes. Ventimiglia, famous for its open air market which offers a vast array of colourful stalls stretching along the coastline with everything from leather goods to delicious Italian delicacies.

The Riviera is also a major yachting and cruising area with several marinas along its coast. Port Hercule in the centre of Monaco is lined with impressive super yachts many owned by celebrities such as Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. If you prefer cars to yachts a visit to casino square will not fail to impress with the usual array of pristine Ferraris and Bentleys lining the streets.

If the sunshine gets all too much, the French Alps are only a short distance away where you can visit the ski resorts of Isola 2000 or Auron. If your preference is for the Italian slopes, Limone Piemonte is equally as close. With a nanny's average two days off per week, what better way to relax and make the most of your free time?
