An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced, professional Governess / Family Assistant to join a warm, welcoming French-Russian family based in the beautiful coastal town of Beaulieu-sur-Mer on the French Riviera.
The family have two delightful children—a boy aged 10 and a girl aged 5—and are seeking a native English-speaking professional who is passionate about child development and education, and who is looking to establish a long-term relationship with a private family.
The successful candidate will become an important part of the children’s lives, providing a nurturing English-speaking environment while encouraging confidence, independence, excellent manners and strong organisational skills through positive role modelling and gentle guidance.
The Role
Working closely with the mother, who will begin studying Film Directing at university this September, the Governess will provide flexible childcare support throughout the week.
Responsibilities will include:
- Collecting the children from school and accompanying them to extracurricular activities.
- Driving confidently between Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and Èze Bord de Mer.
- Creating an immersive English-speaking environment throughout the day.
- Preparing simple, healthy meals for the children.
- Supporting homework, routines and daily organisation.
- Planning stimulating activities during school holidays.
- Assisting with light household duties related to the children and maintaining an organised family environment.
The position is primarily live-out; however, a comfortable guest bedroom is available should occasional overnight stays be required due to the mother’s university commitments, filming schedule or evening engagements.
Schedule
The family’s routine will become fully established once the mother’s university timetable is confirmed in September.
In general, the role will consist of:
- Monday to Friday.
- Predominantly afternoon and evening hours during term time.
- Full-day coverage on Wednesdays.
- Increased daytime involvement during school holidays.
- Flexibility for occasional evenings, weekends and overnight support when required.
The family are committed to maintaining an excellent work-life balance wherever possible. The children’s grandmother regularly visits throughout the year and is able to provide childcare during these periods, allowing the successful candidate the opportunity to enjoy extended annual leave.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal applicant will possess:
- Native or near-native English.
- Previous experience as a Governess, Nanny or Family Assistant within a private household.
- A genuine passion for children’s education and development.
- Excellent driving skills and a clean driving licence.

- Outstanding organisational skills.
- Professionalism, discretion and flexibility.
